This past week in Independent Study and Mentorship I started by broadening my network. Some challenges I faced this week were finding which sector of videography I should indulge in and finding professionals of those sectors. I connected with some videographers and cinematographers to see which specific field intrigued me the most. Some of the professionals I connected with were a commercial videographer, a music video producer, and a movie producer. After messaging them I hope to get my first few interviews to get more insight on which sector of cinematography I would like to pursue. The next coming weeks I hope to get interviews with some of the professionals I connected with.
Also during this past week I gained some new knowledge about Cinematography from an article written by Auckland University of Technology. I learned that the Director of Photography is the leader of the camera and lighting crews on set. The Director of Photography, or the DP, is in charge of everything the camera captures. While the Director is the person who plans out how the script comes to life and tries to evoke emotion in the audience. These are two roles that I would like to achieve some day.
