This past week in Independent Study and Mentorship I had my second interview with a professional who won an Emmy Award for his documentary about a painter who has been through a lot of adversities, but chose to paint beauty. He gave me much insight into the filming process of documentaries and feature films by explaining their differences and similarities. He also made it very clear to me that in this career it is mandatory to have people skills and have a broad network before entering the field. I learned that the way to get work experience within this industry is to have connections with directors or script writers, to collaborate on projects. While explaining the filmmaking process he also emphasized that the editing process and the scriptwriting process were the two most important parts of creating a film. The knowledge I learned from Mr. Costa will help me with the filming process of my original work project. My main takeaways from this interview is that I need to focus on the script and the editing of my original work project because they set the tone and the budget for the film.
This next coming week in Independent Study and Mentorship I hope to connect with more professionals and get another interview.
