During this past week in Independent Study and Mentorship I gave a speech about my research into the field of cinematography and my Original Work Project. I also learned about sound effects and the use of Foley artist through an article I read. Within a film there are many sounds that need to be accounted for that many viewers do not pay attention to. For instance many viewers do not pay attention to the footsteps heard while characters walk around or when a character closes a door and there is a creaking sound. These sounds are most likely shot after the scene was filmed to make sure the sounds are loud enough or quiet enough for the scene. There are also sounds that are unwanted by the audience and director because they cause too much noise. Human voices, music, and sound effects are used in the production of films. For a picture to feel authentic to the spectator, these three sorts of noises are essential. Sounds and language in a film must properly match with the action in real time and sound the same as they do on screen. When the sound doesn't match the motion on screen, the action isn't nearly as convincing.
This next week in ISM I hope to get another interview with a professional cinematographer.
